About the course
Our Tea Heritage Tour lets you experience the century old communion between Kolkata and its “chaa”. We begin the city tour with a delectable breakfast paired with some of the finest teas of India. This is followed by a visit to Lalbazar, the hustling wholesale tea market of Kolkata in the heart of the city. You will also visit the most popular and heritage tea joints across the city. There is no better way to experience the City of Joy than with lots of chai.
Other Details
Mid-19th century, during the Opium Wars the fate of Indian Tea was decided. In 1838, the first batch of Indian tea was shipped to England and in January, 1839 it was auctioned at India House, London. And since then, because of its close proximity to Assam and Darjeeling, Kolkata has become the Mecca for tea lovers.
You will vist the famous chaiwallas of the city, each having their unique tea preparation style and varieties. The tour has been designed by two homeboys, Tathagata and Souvik, both experienced tea sommeliers who want you to delve deep into the local tea culture and experience tea like never before.
